Doubting her fidelity, an elderly man allegedly murdered his 61-year-old wife here, police said today.
Retired railway employee Jehangir Gowardhan Pawar (68) stabbed his wife Vaijayanti several times at their home in Ulhasnagar township of Thane district around midnight, police said.
The couple, who have three married children, used to have frequent quarrels as the man suspected his wife's character.
After a similar argument last night, Pawar, in a fit of rage, brutally assaulted his wife with a sharp weapon and fled from the spot.
Later, police reached the house and sent the woman's body for postmortem.
A case under Section 302 (murder) of IPC has been registered against the accused, police said, adding that a search was on to nab him.
