38-year-old Dinesh Kasare, who worked as a ward boy at a hospital was a habitual drinker and used to frequently ask for money from his father Kashinath Kasare, which led to quarrels between them, Sub-Inspector P R Gite said.
The duo again had a fight on Sunday late night at their residence in Ekvira Devi building in Virar when Dinesh asked his father to give him the pension money he had got to buy liquor.
When his father refused to give him money, Dinesh picked up an iron rod and smashed the elderly man's head with it, killing him on the spot, he said.
