The incident occurred last night when the accused identified as Rajender Naik, an autorickshaw driver, throttled the 48-year-old baby in an inebriated condition, said Jogipet circle police inspector, Nagaiah.
He said Naik is married with two children, a girl and a boy who is mentally challenged.
The police officer said Naik's wife had delivered a baby girl again, following which he was upset.
Last night he came home drunk and went straight to the room where the infant Pavitra was sleeping and allegedly strangled her, police said, adding that Naik's wife was in another room when the incident occurred.
