According to the prosecution, convict Muthukumar had brought a 16-year-old girl to Pollachi from Nemmara in Kerala in January 2013 on the pretext of placing her in a hostel and finding her a job.
The man took her to an isolated building in Pollachi, repeatedly raped her and held her captive for nearly a month, even as her mother lodged a missing person complaint.
Meanwhile, Muthukumar's wife, an estate worker, lodged a complaint with police in Pollachi, based on which he was arrested and the girl restored to her mother, police said
In a separate case, the judge sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife in September 2013. The case was that Manikandan who, during a quarrel with his wife, strangled her in their house in Pollachi.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Manikandan, failing which he would have to undergo a further imprisonment for six months.
