Man sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case

A 28-year old electrician from Mumbra here, convicted of killing a mechanic, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court.
Principal district judge R R Gandhi yesterday awarded the sentence to Mohammad Anis Mohammad Rafique Khan for killing Hussain Shahbuddin Shaikh (22) and also slapped on him a fine of Rs 10,000.
He will undergo seven years rigorous imprisonment concurrently for destroying evidence.
According to Additional Public Prosecutor Hemalata Deshmukh, Khan, along with his wife, Mehjabin (24) and another person Rahul Maruti Kamble, killed Shaikh who was the paramour of Khan's wife.
Mehjabin, who was tried in the case, was acquitted by the court in absence of sufficient evidence against her.

The prosecutor in her submission told the court that Sheikh and Mehjabin were in a relationship even before her marriage with Khan and both continued to meet after marriage, to which Khan had objected.

According to the prosecution, on March 1, 2012, Khan and Mehjabin had called Sheikh to their house and strangulated him to death, packed his body in a bag with help of their aide Kamble and dumped it in a lake the next day.
The victim's father had then lodged a missing complaint with the police.
Sheikh's body was recovered near the lake on March 7 in a decomposed condition.

Based on the prosecution argument and circumstantial evidences, Khan was convicted.
The third accused Rahul Maruti Kamble, is still at large.
All the three accused were charged under sections 302 (murder), 201 (disappearance of evidence) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
