Abdul Hakim and his wife Mahvish, who were residing in Delhi, had just entered their native village Adholi around 7 PM when Mahvish's uncle stopped them and shot at Hakim with his pistol, SSP Gulab Singh said here.
Hakim died on the spot, he added.
The couple were accompanied by their two-year old child when the incident occurred.
Three years ago, Hakim had secretly married Mahvish, who was from an upper caste, and shifted with her to Delhi following opposition from the latter's family.
A case has been registered and manhunt launched to nab the accused, Singh said.
