A 21-year-old woman was allegedly murdered for dowry by her husband who later surrendered before the police.
Last night, Praveen alias Teenu was strangulated to death by her husband Mustafa over dowry demand, Station House Officer of Mussorie police station Raj Kumar Yadav said.
The accused then called up police control room and confessed to the murder following which police swung into action and arrested him from his residence, the SHO said.
Mustafa, a resident of Usman Colony, had married the deceased 18 months ago and they have a six-month-old daughter, he said.
Meanwhile, Shanno Devi, Praveen's mother, lodged a complaint accusing Mustafa, his mother Shabana and brother Mushtaq of killing her daughter for dowry, he said.
On her complaint, an FIR has been registered under IPC section 304B (dowry death) against the three, he said.
The body has been sent for postmortem, he said, adding, efforts are on to nab the remaining two accused.
