The accused, Vikram Joshi, was arrested from Ahmedabad yesterday. He was declared a proclaimed offender by a Dwarka Court here and was carrying a reward of Rs 20,000 on him, DCP (Special Cell) Pramod Singh Kushwah said.
In April last year, Vishal Verma (22), a tailor by profession, had eloped with a minor girl belonging to a different caste of a village in Rajasthan.
They assured Vishal and his family members that they will allow him to marry the girl once she turns 18. Vishal and his family agreed to this proposal and allowed the girl's family to take them back home, he said.
But instead of taking them to their village, the girl's family members took Vishal to a high-rise building at Vijay Nagar in Ghaziabad. There he was mercilessly beaten up and pushed off the building, the officer said.
Delhi police conducted several raids but could not nab the accused following which they were declared proclaimed offenders by a court in Dwarka. On March 8, a reward of Rs 20,000 was also declared on their arrest.
Delhi Police's Special Cell received information on the first week of April that one Vikram Sharma, is roaming in Delhi and Ghaziabad to evade arrest. Later on receiving information about his presence in Ahmedabad, a team was sent there and the accused arrested, the DCP said.
During interrogation, the accused said Vishal lived near their house at Gurara village in Sikar district of Rajasthan.
Police is trying to arrest the other two accused.
