Man who contested panchayat ward election dies suddenly

A party candidate who contested a ward election in the just concluded civic polls in Thurayur panchayat, near here, died today while leaving his house for the counting centre.
Ajeesh (38) of Kodakkad, a Janata Dal(U) nominee in Kunnavayal ward, was about to leave this morning when he suddenly collapsed. He was immediately rushed to the Koyilandi government hospital where he was declared brought dead, Payyoli police said.
The reason for his death is yet to ascertained, they said.
Ajeesh, a state member of the JD(U) and secretary of the Perambra assembly constituency, lost the polls by a narrow margin of 15 votes. He polled 328 votes against his CPI-M rival who secured 343 votes, according to poll authorities.
