Rejecting Jharkhand government's order for a vigilance probe in coal smuggling, former chief minister Babulal Marandi today said CBI alone could inquire impartially into the illicit trade as prominent political leaders and officials were allegedly involved in the racket.
Marandi met Governor Syed Ahmed at Raj Bhavan and submitted a memorandum to him stating instead of ordering a CBI probe, the Chief Minister, Hemant Soren, directed a vigilance probe into the coal smuggling in the state.
He alleged involvement of some political leaders and government officials in illegal coal trade.
Days after Soren ordered the vigilance probe, the police had on May 12 seized 34 tonne coal, illegally stocked in a forest area of Hazaribagh district.
