Maruti sales rise 7.1% to 1,23,034 units in May

Country's largest car-maker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) today posted 7.1 per cent increase in total sales at 1,23,034 units in May.
The company had sold 1,14,825 units in May 2015.
Domestic sales of the company rose 10.6 per cent during the month to 1,13,162 units as against 1,02,359 units in the same month a year ago.
Sales of mini segment cars, including Alto and WagonR, however, declined by 5.6 per cent to 33,105 units as compared with 35,062 units in the year-ago month, MSI said in a statement.
The company said sales of the compact segment comprising Swift, Estilo, Ritz, Dzire and Baleno surged 11 per cent to 46,554 units in the reported month as against 41,926 units in May last year.
MSI said sales of its compact sedan Dzire Tour declined by 19.9 per cent to 2,555 units during the month under review compared with 3,190 units in May 2015.
Sales of mid-sized sedan Ciaz soared 3.5 per cent to 5,188 units in May.
Sales of utility vehicles including Gypsy, Grand Vitara, Ertiga, S-Cross and recently launched compact SUV Vitara Brezza surged over two-fold to 13,596 units in May from 5,567 units in the corresponding month last year.
Sales of vans -- Omni and Eeco -- rose 4.8 per cent to 12,164 units in May as against to 11,602 units in the same period of the previous year.
Exports during the month declined by 20.8 per cent to 9,872 units compared with 12,466 units in May 2015, MSI said.
