Former Director General of Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Ajay Mathur will take over as the chief of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) on Monday, after R K Pachauri, who is embroiled in a sexual harrassment case, was removed by the green body last year.
"This is true. Ajay Mathur had come and visited TERI earlier and got familiar with infrastructure and staff. But formally he will take over on Monday. It could be a day before or after but the move is on," Director, HR, TERI Dinesh Varma told PTI.
Mathur was appointed as the new DG at the governing Council (GC) meeting of TERI in July last year.
Mathur represented India at the recent Climate Change conference in Paris where he was one of the country's key negotiators.
On February 13, an FIR was registered against 74-year-old Pachauri on charges of sexual harassment levelled by a senior TERI employee after which the institution's governing body decided to remove him.
According to reports, Mathur is learnt to have raised concerns over "independent functioning" earlier.
Reports said Mathur had resigned from BEE on July 23, the day Pachauri was removed from TERI.
However, even after completion of a mandatory three month cooling off period, which expired on October 21, Mathur had not joined TERI.
Mathur himself could not be contacted for comments.
