Media rights group Reporters without Borders says it is suing Germany's foreign intelligence agency, claiming that it spies on the organization's emails sent to foreign contacts in countries such as China or Uzbekistan.
The Federal Administrative Court in Leipzig confirmed today that it had received and would now examine the suit filed by the Paris-based group's German section.
Germany's BND intelligence agency said earlier this year that it screens millions of emails a year, though only about 15,000 are examined closely.
Reporters without Borders claims that because of the search terms used by the spy agency, and due to the location of its contacts, "it must be assumed that numerous emails from the organization were recorded and processed."
The BND declined to comment on the case.
