A case has been registered against the Dean of Shri Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College here under the Atrocities Act for allegedly abusing a college professor with caste slur, police said today.
"We have registered a criminal offence under section 3 (2) (5) of Atrocity Act against the Dean, Dr Ashok Rathod, on Monday night. However, he has not been arrested so far in this regard," police inspector N M Pant said.
The Professor and the HoD of Medicine Dr Baba Elke had earlier lodged a complaint against Rathod, in which he alleged that the latter called him on the phone and abused him and used derogatory remarks against his religion last week.
Based on his complaint, Yavatmal city police conducted an inquiry and recorded the statements from doctors, nurses and other employees of the GMC, following which a case was registered today under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
