A professor from a medical college and hospital here was booked for fraud after he allegedly cheated the management into securing a job there by producing fake documents, police said today.
Dr Abhay Purushottam Kulkarni, Professor of Orthopaedic department of the Rajiv Gandhi Medical College and Chatrapati Shivaji Civic Hospital at Kalwa was booked under the sections 420 and 468 of IPC on a complaint by Associate Professor Dr Sanjay Barnwal.
According to API Sandeep Bagul of the Kalwa police station who is probing the case, Kulkarni applied for the professor job in the college in 2001 after presenting fake documents.
The Selection Committee and competent officer had not not verified the documents produced by Dr Kulkarni at that time and appointed him to the post.
Later during the verification it was revealed that the details given by Dr Kulkarni were incorrect and the management had been cheated following which a complaint was made with the Kalwa police.
The Kalwa police carried out investigation into the case and prima facie it was found that the papers presented by Kulkarni were not in order and offences were registered against him.
The professor has not been arrested yet, police said.
