The US based company Billion Pictures, which has produced a documentary by the same name, sent a legal communication to the makers of the Indian comedy film.
"We are legally sorted as our title is registered with Indian Film and TV producers Council (IFTPC) but we have chosen to change it voluntarily.
"We actually consider this notice as a compliment because this indicates that there is awareness about our film. The new title 'Solid Patels' captures the quirkiness and madness of our film," Varma said in a statement.
The film is expected to hit theatres April next year and the first trailer of the film will be released along with 'PK' in theatres.
