Meghalaya government will conduct elections to fill 29 seats in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) early next year, District Council Affairs Minister H D R Lyngdoh said today.
"We will have to complete the electioneering process before February 17," Lyngdoh said.
Elections to the GHADC had to be postponed in view of the peace pact which was signed in October earlier this year with two of the popular militant outfits -- ANVC and its splinter group ANVC-B -- the Garo Hills region in the state.
The term of the council was extended twice, the last time in August this year.
