The houseowner, Manubhai Patel, had engaged the labourers for pulling the dilapidate house down as he wanted to build a new one in its place.
According to police, one of its walls caved in this afternoon. "Some of the labourers were having tea with Patel's family members when the wall collapsed on them," said Kadi police inspector S N Patel.
"Three persons died on the spot while two others succumbed in hospital. Two labourers who are seriously injured were shifted to Ahmedabad civil hospital," the inspector said.
