The 39-year-old singer said Belafonte promised he would upgrade the ring every three years, reported the Daily Mirror.
"My husband turned up today and I thought something was wrong and then he just handed me this massive sparkler of a ring. I thought, 'Oh my God'. It's so big, it's so gorgeous, I absolutely love it," she said.
Mel B, who has daughter Madison with Belafonte, added that he had bought the rock from Leon Diamond jewellers in New York and flown all the way to the UK to present her with it.
