Member of gang which opened fire on police in Dec arrested

A member of Asif gang who was involved in firing on a police party in southeast Delhi last December, has been caught carrying a semi-automatic pistol.
26-year-old Ashu is a member of the gang run by his brother-in-law Asif was caught after a shootout near Aruna Nagar underbridge of Timarpur, last week, said Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).
A semi-automatic pistol along with four used cartridges and one stolen motorcycle was recovered from him, the DCP said.
Ashu is wanted in a shootout case registered at Pul Prahlad Pur station and a reward of Rs 25,000 was declared by Delhi Police on his arrest, said the officer.
Last year, on December 1, the gang members including Ashu were fleeing after attempting to rob a motorist and a biker in southeast Delhi when they were intercepted by a team of cops from Pul Prahladpur police station.
The gang members had opened fire at the police party and managed to escape, he said.
During interrogation, Ashu admitted his involvements in several criminal cases including the incidents of December 1, claimed the officer.
"He was arrested in 2013 in an auto theft case and was released on bail. After this, he started committing robberies along with his brother-in-law Asif, who was running a gang. Ashu had so far managed to remain at large despite arrest of other gang members including Asif," added the officer.
