: Members of both ruling and opposition blocks today drew the attention of the House to the frequent power cuts or low voltage in their constituencies.
Ruling AINRC legislator Ashok Anand, who tabled the main question in the assembly, said Vinoba Nagar block in his constituency of Thattanchavady was facing frequent power cut and low voltage for many months. He alleged that Electricity Department officials had not responded to his representation.
Their reply was that there was not enough stock of transformers and other electrical equipment,he said even after the Electricity Minister T Thiagarajan told him steps would be taken to tackle the situation.
Government whip G Nehru also informed the House that the power cut in his constituency Orleanpet was affecting people.
Opposition Congress legislator P N R Tirumurugan from Karaikal said fishermen's hamlets there were facing power cut for years together.
The Minister assured that members' representations would be looked into.
A Baskar (AIADMK) raised the issue of non availability of special teachers for differently abled children during question time and urged the Chief Minister to ensure that such teachers are available on regular basis.
Earlier Electricity and Education Minister Thiagarajan said there was no creation of posts and for that the nod of the Centre was necessary.
With the AIADMK member insisting on speedy steps to create the posts, the CM intervened and told him that as a Union Territory, the administration could not go ahead with creating posts without nod of the Centre.
Government should also consider the financial position before taking decisions on creation of posts, he said.
