Two alleged members of a gang of carjackers active in the national capital and adjoining Gurgaon have been arrested here, police said.
Binu Kumar (28) and Md Altaf (23) were nabbed by the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police from Delhi Cantonment-Dwarka Road following a tip-off.
A silver Toyota Innova car, allegedly robbed by the duo recently, was recovered from them.
With the arrest, police have claimed to have solved five carjacking cases lodged in Delhi and Gurgaon.
The gang used to target high-end cars after pursuing them for some days.
Describing the modus operandi of the gang, police said, "They used 'gamchas' (cotton towels) and firearms for committing the robberies. They would force the driver of the targeted car to stop and come out of the vehicle, after which they took control by showing the firearm. They would then shift the driver to the rear seats."
"Thereafter, they would tie the limbs of the driver with the 'gamcha' and cover his eyes with a cloth. If the driver resisted, they would beat him. After taking control of the vehicle, they would then throw the driver out at an isolated place after taking all his valuables."
In one robbery committed by the gang in March this year, they had hit a Ford Eco Sport car from behind with their stolen car to force the driver to step out of the SUV.
As the driver got out of the car, they robbed him of the vehicle using their modus operandi.
Meanwhile, based on the interrogation of Binu and Altaf, Gurgaon Police has claimed to have arrested another member of the gang, Aamir.
