Members of sand mining gang attack policemen in UP

Eight policemen were injured in an exchange of fire with alleged members of mining mafia here during a raid, police said today.
The incident ocurred yesterday when a police team reached Piperpati village under Lalganj area here following an information regarding illegal mining of sand, police said.
As the team reached the spot, gang members first attacked the team with lathis and then fired at them, Inspector Jaiprakash Yadav said.
An fir has been loged against five named and twenty-five unnamed in this connection, Yadav added.
However, names were not disclosed by the police.
