The incident took place on June 28 when 67-year-old Vellaiyan, a resident of Puducolony, raped the woman after taking her to a hut.
However, a police complaint in this regard was lodged by the woman's family only yesterday, following which Vellaiyan was arrested.
He was produced before Additional District Mahila Court Judge Kalaivani who remanded him to 15 days judicial custody last evening, police said.
