The film, based on the book "Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption" by Bryan Stevenson, will be directed by Destin Cretton of "Short Term 12", reported Variety.
"We are privileged to bring Bryan's memoir to the world as a major motion picture," said Gabriel and Daniel Hammond, Broad Green Pictures CEO and chief creative officer.
The adaptation will be produced by Broad Green Pictures along with Gil Netter who also produced "Life of Pi" and "The Blind Side".
The movie is based on the true story of Stevenson, a young lawyer who founded the Equal Justice Initiative and took on a formative case of a young man who was sentenced to death for a notorious murder he insisted he didn't commit.
Jordan, 28, is best known to star in films like "Creed" and "Fruitvale Station".
