The "Patriots Day" actor joins the cast which already includes KiKi Layne, Stephan James, Colman Domingo, Brian Tyree Henry, Dave Franco, Ed Skrein, and Regina King, reported Deadline.
The film is based on James Baldwin's novel and is about a woman in Harlem desperately trying to prove her fiance's innocence for a crime while carrying their first child.
The "Moonlight" director is adapting the novel for the big screen.
