Mid-term appraisal of 12th Plan in advanced stages

The mid-term appraisal of the 12th Five-Year Plan (2012-17) is in advanced stage, thinktank NITI Aayog said today.
The mid-term appraisal of the 12th Plan began in April this year.
Enlisting major tasks undertaken by the policy think tank, NITI Aayog in a statement said mid-term appraisal of 12th Five Year Plan, taskforce on elimination of poverty, taskforce on agricultural development and sub-group of chief ministers on rationalisation of centrally-sponsored schemes are in advance stages.
Also, the work under sub-group of chief ministers on skill development, sub-group of chief ministers on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and expert committee on innovation & entrepreneurship are in advanced stage, it said.
NITI Aayog said it is actively engaged with the states and some projects are going on related with that.
The think-tank also enlisted other initiatives such as creation of project monitoring groups in states and identification of schemes and departments for the purpose of rationalisation in Kerala that it has undertaken as its engagement with the states.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day speech last year had announced disbanding erstwhile Planning Commission to form the new body NITI Aayog.
NITI Aayog also quoted a portion of Modi's speech in its statement released today.
"I believe that when Planning Commission was constituted, it was done on the basis of the circumstances and the needs of those time.
"So, I am saying from the rampart of the Red Fort that it is very old system and it will have to be rejuvenated...Very shortly, we are about to move in a direction when this institute would be functioning in place of Planning Commission," Modi had said on Independence Day last year.
