Militant killed in Kupwara

An unidentified militant was killed today while another is holed up inside a building in a village in Handwara area of Kupwara district, police said.
Security forces cordoned off a house in Malikpora village in Vilgam area of Handwara, 85 kms from here, following information about presence of militants there, a senior police officer said.
He said the militants opened firing on security forces, who retaliated, triggering off a fierce gun battle.
"One militant was killed as he tried to escape from the cordon while another is still holed up in the wooden cowshed," he added.
One security force personnel has sustained injuries in the operation.
