'Mines Safety Week' at Utkal Alumina

The need to strictly follow safe mining practices and high standards of hazard-free work environment was emphasised during 31st Odisha Metal-ferrous Mines Safety Week Celebration 2013-14 in Odisha's Rayagada district.
Held under the aegis of DGMS (Directorate General of Mining Survey) - Bhubaneswar Region, the week was observed at Utkal Alumina International Ltd's Baphlimali mines where the criticality of safety at workplace and relentlessly following safe mining practices was further stressed.
The inspection team including officials from NALCO, Indian Rare Earth and ACC reviewed the activities of Utkal's Mines and surroundings, with DGMS providing the oversight durint the recent safety week, a press release said today.
In their view, the safety measures adopted by Utkal were notable, it said adding the message to the mining fraternity to further promote safety awareness amongst the workmen and to improve their participation in safety management was loud and clear.
Speaking on the occasion, CEO cum MD of UAIL Rajesh Jha said, "Safety and Security of each one in Utkal Alumina has been our first and foremost priority and these are non-negotiable values beyond any compromise."
"Safety is of paramount importance and we are adhering to all directives of DGMS. We are always prepared to walk an extra mile to set higher and higher standards on safe work environment," he said.
Aditya Birla Public School students, ladies club, workmen and their family members, contractors, consultants and villagers were enthused. Their active engagement went a long way towards re-kindling the importance of safety. Pictorials, slogans and playing the safety song, kawalis, Dance and drama, forcefully drove home the message, in an enjoyable fashion.
Importantly, the mining fraternity took an oath to implement the safety culture in all spheres of mining activities, it added.
