The minimum temperatures dropped below normal limits in Punjab and Haryana on Thursday, with Amritsar reeling at 1.8 degrees Celsius.
The temperatures had registered a slight increase on Wednesday, but the night temperatures plummeted again, the meteorological department officials said.
Ludhiana recorded a low of 4.2 degrees Celsius, while it was 6 degrees in Patiala. The minimum temperature in other places are: Pathankot (4.1 degrees), Halwara (4.4 degrees), Gurdaspur (4 degrees), Faridkot (6.5 degrees) and Bathinda (6.5 degrees).
The minimum temperature in Chandigarh was 5.5 degrees Celsius.
Hisar in Haryana recorded a minimum of 4.7 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal. The minimum temperature in Karnal and Narnaul were 4 degrees Celsius each.
Bhiwani and Sirsa recorded 6.3 degrees Celsius and 6.2 degrees Celsius respectively, while it was 5.6 degress Celsius in Rohtak.
The officials said fog reduced visibility early in the morning at many places, including Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Patiala, Faridkot, Hisar and Bhiwani.
