Cutting across party lines, villagers of Kamduni in North 24-Parganas district, where a college girl was raped and brutally murdered in June, should unite and fight against the evils and restore peace in the entire area, some West Bengal ministers said here today.
Speaking at a blood donation camp, organised by Trinamool Congress-sponsored Kamduni Santi Raksha Committee, Food and Supplies Minister Jyotipriyo Mallick and Transport Minister Madan Mitra called upon all villagers to unite in the interest of safety and security of local residents.
Kamduni Santi Raksha Committee was formed to counter the anti-government Kamduni Pratibadi Mancha and very recently the victim's family members have joined the former ending all relations with the Mancha, formed to demand justice for the deceased, and accusing the Mancha of politicising the issue.
The victim's family also received financial assistance and assurance of government service for three persons from the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently.
"We are against all crimes, including crimes against women, and we want exemplary punishment for the culprits. At the same time, peace should be restored in the area and development works should take place. Please unite and work together to make it possible," the ministers said.
State's Labour Minister Purnendu Bose and Education Minister Bratya Basu were also present on the occasion.
Bose said the government was always in favour of exemplary punishment for the culprits, "but law will take its own course and we have to wait for that."
Basu appealed to give up politicising the issue and work together to ensure peace and prosperity of the entire area.
