A 14-year-old girl was critically injured when a youth, her relative, allegedly shot at her for turning down his 'marriage' proposal in Kalwa town near here today.
The incident occurred at a slum in Mahatma Phule Nagar, when the accused, identified as Kamalkant Saini, accosted the girl and insisted upon accepting his proposal, police said.
When she turned down his proposal, the accused fired at the girl injuring her in the neck, they said, adding Saini had proposed the girl, the daughter of his aunt, several times in the past, but was rejected every time.
Saini has been arrested and booked under section 307 of IPC (attempt to murder) and provisions of Arms Act.
