Minor's rape: DNA sample doesn't link foetus to accused

The case of rape of a 14-year-old girl, who was allowed by the Supreme Court to terminate 25-week-old pregnancy, took a new turn today as the DNA report of foetus does not link it with the accused.
The report was today opened before the special court for Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act cases at Himmatnagar during the hearing of the bail plea of Jatin Mehta, the accused.
It said the DNA samples of the doctor and the foetus did not match. The judge N C Rawal then granted bail to Mehta.
Public prosecutor Arvind Patel confirmed the development.

A team of doctors here had on July 31 successfully terminated the 25-week pregnancy of the minor rape victim after the Supreme Court's order, possibly the first of its kind in Indian medico-legal history.
As per the law, abortion is not allowed after the 20th week of the pregnancy. The victim sought permission for abortion which the sessions court as well as the High Court denied.

In the Supreme Court, the division bench of Justices A R Dave and Kurian Joseph had asked Ahmedabad civil hospital to have the girl examined by gynaecologists and a psychologist and perform abortion if the doctors opined that it was necessary for her survival.

It had also ordered that DNA samples of foetus be collected for the purpose of the case against Dr Mehta.
According to the girl, Mehta raped her at his clinic in Ranasan village when she had visited him for typhoid treatment.
