A man, who was reported missing for the last two days, was found dead trampled by an elephant in a village coming under Mudumalai Tiger Reserve today, police said.
The 42-year old Mani, a Paniya tribe in their colony in Mundakarai, did not return home after he left on Sunday and a search was on for him, police said.
Some villagers noticed a body lying in fringe forest area in Naganpalli this morning, which was identified as that of Mani, with his head smashed by elephant.
Forest department and police officials rushed to the spot and retrieved the body, which was sent to Gudalur Government Hospital for postmortem, they said.
