Mizoram-Tripura-Bangladesh border Mamit district was ready to undertake the repatriation of 2,594 Bru families from the six relief camps in North Tripura district scheduled to commence from November 1, a senior official said today.
The meeting of the district-level core committee on Bru repatriation was held today in which the detailed programme of the proposed repatriation as per the Road Map-V was deliberated, District deputy commissioner Lalbiaksangi said.
She said the actual repatriation is scheduled to begin from November 30, after completion of the identification process in the relief camps.
Those Bru families willing to return to Mizoram are proposed to be resettled in 43 villages in Mamit district while facilitation camp would be established at the Tripura border Kanhmun town, she said, adding staging areas, before being transported to their respective villages would be established at Mamit town and Suarhliap village.
Meanwhile, according to the Road Map - V, a total number of 3,445 families are proposed to be repatriated this time around and proposed to be resettled in three districts - Mamit, Kolasib and Lunglei.
The largest number of Bru families would be resettled in Mamit district, followed by Kolasib district - 628 families, while 223 families are proposed to be resettled in south Mizoram's Lunglei district, adjoining Bangladesh.
The state home department officials, however, argued that the actual repatriation may not be conducted as per schedule as the Centre was yet to give formal clearance and sanction the fund required for conduct of the repatriation.
The actual repatriation may be possible only by January next year if the issue is being taken up at the snail's pace by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the officials added.
