MMK seeks release of prisoners served more than 10 yrs in jail

Manityaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) today urged the Government to release those life prisoners who have served more than 10 years in jails in Tamil Nadu.
Talking to reporters after visiting some convicts in the Central jail here, MMK President Prof M H Jawahirulla said that the Government could release them under Article 161 (to grant pardon, remit or commute sentences in certain cases) of the constitution.
The Chief Minister Edapadi K Palanisamy had recently announced that as part of MGR Centenary Celebrations, the government would release those prisoners who had completed 10 years in jail, he said.
