Police today seized eight mobile phones and nine sim cards from the possession of prisoners in district jail here, an official said.
The seizure was made in a raid conducted by District Magistrate Yogeshwar Ram Mishra and SSP RK Bhardwaj at the district jail at Chowkghat in Cantt Police Station area today morning, the police said.
"There were complaints that mobile phones were being used inside the jail premises for making ransom calls and other purposes," the district magistrate said.
An FIR was registered against the guilty prisoners, the police said, adding an investigation is being carried out to find out how they got access to phones inside the jail premises.
