Expressing concern over violence against women, Women and Child Development minister Krishna Tirath today said it is high time that men and women at grassroot levels are mobilised as change agents to achieve a violence free India.
"To discourage violence against women and to generate awareness amongst the community on various laws meant for women, WCD ministry has launched 'Ahimsa Messengers'.
"The curative part also needs to be addressed through an integrated and coordinated teamwork of multi-sectoral and inter-agency network at one place for rehabilitation of violence victims and for this the ministry is planning to initiate 'One Stop Crises Centres' and 'One Stop Service Centres' in different districts," Tirath said.
She was speaking at the 4th meeting of Central Monitoring Committee of National Mission for Empowerment of Women here.
Tirath said the ministry's special concerns are issues of violence against women, declining child sex ratio, child marriage, trafficking, health and sanitation, drinking water, right to education, training of elected women representatives, innovative financial inclusion and engendering livelihood programmes.
She said grassroot level success can be seen through 'Poorna Shakti Kendra model' where 'mahila gram samanvayaks' are playing a key role in addressing women's issues.
On the issue of child sex ratio, Tirath said her ministry is preparing a national plan of action, taking into account the recommendations of National Advisory Council and Sectoral Innovation Council.
