Model Code violation charge sheet against Muzaffarnagar SP bypoll candidate

November 20 has been fixed as the date for hearing in the matter

A charge sheet for violation of the Model Code of Conduct has been filed against Nahid Hasan, the SP candidate for the upcoming bypoll to the Kairana Assembly seat, in a case registered during Lok Sabha polls earlier this year.

Police filed the charge sheet under Section 171 of IPC last evening in a court in Kairana, which fixed November 20 as the date for a hearing in the matter.

Samajwadi Party (SP) has named Hasan, who had contested unsuccessfully on its ticket in the 2014 general elections, as its candidate for the Oct. 15 byelection for the Kairana Assembly seat.

The model code violation case was booked against Hasan in March of this year for allegedly making defamatory remarks against BSP supremo Mayawati during campaigning for the Kairana Lok Sabha seat.

The nomination process for the Assembly bypoll was notified on Sept. 20 and is open till Sept. 27. Hasan is yet to enter his name as a candidate for the seat.
