Moderate to heavy rains lash parts of HP

Moderate to heavy rains lashed most parts of Himachal Pradesh, triggering landslides and uprooting trees.
Landslides disrupted power supply in Shimla town as uprooted trees damaged power transmission lines, disrupting power supply as several areas remained out of power for about 20 hours.
The higher reaches in tribal Lahaul and Spiti district and Dodra Kwar area of Shimla district had light snowfall while traffic on Manali-Leh highway was disrupted due to falling of boulders at Nehrukund and Rani Nallah.
The Bara Bhangal area in interior of Kangra district was cut off due to landslides in the main road while vehicular traffic was disrupted in interiors of Shimla, Chamba, Kangra and Kullu districts as rains triggered landslides, blocking the link roads.

All the major rivers and their tributaries are flowing above the danger mark and flash flood threat loomed large in lower areas.
People have been advised not to go near the riverbanks as there is possibility of sudden rise in water level in the rivers.

Nauni in Solan district was wettest in the state with 58 mm of rains followed by Shimla and Kasauli 41 mm, Dharampur 38 mm, Solan 35 mm, Nahan 32 mm, Paonta, Dharamshala 26 mm, Jubbarhatti and Manali 25 mm, Bhuntar 23 mm, Jhanjehli 20 mm, Bajaura and Bijahi 19 mm, Seobagh 18 mm, Sundernagar, Una and Bilaspur 17 mm, Nainadevi 16 mm, Kalpa, Jogindernagar and Mandi 15 mm.

There was no appreciable change in the lows and Kalpa was the coldest at night with 10.8 degrees, Keylong 11.6 degrees while the key tourist destinations of Manali, Dalhousie, Dharamshala and Shimla recorded a low of 12, 15.1, 15.2 and 15.7 degrees respectively followed by Bhuntar 16.6, Una 18, Solan 18.2, Nahan 18.9, Chamba and Kangra 20.4, Sundernagar 20.6, Bilaspur and Hamirpur 22.1 degrees Celsius.
The maximum temperatures decreased by few notches and Una was the hottest in the day with a high of 29.5 degrees followed by Kangra 26.9, Dharamshala 24.6, Nahan and Sundernagar 24.4, Bhuntar 23, Solan 21.5, Kalpa 19.4 and Shimla 18.6 degrees Celsius.

The local Met department has warned of heavy rainfall in low and mid hills on July 15 and 16 and predicted rains and thundershowers in low, mid and high hills over next six days.
