Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma today accused the BJP government at the Centre of undermining important institutions of the country and sought a public apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi for "betraying" the people.

The deputy leader of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha claimed that "wrong decisions" like demonetisation and "hasty implementation" of the GST under the Modi government have led the country into its "most painful period" since Independence.

The authority and credibility of the Reserve Bank of India has taken a hit after demonetisation as it failed to put issues in the right perspective before the government and implemented the decision within a few hours, he alleged.

The Modi government, he told a press conference here, is undermining important institutions like the CBI, ED, ECI and the RBI and making a mess of the banking system.

Sharma said while there was nothing to celebrate the Modi government's four years in office, tt has unleashed a massive propaganda, spending crores of rupees to misinform and misguide the people.

He claimed that investment rate in the country had hit an all-time low and the savings of the people have touched a 15 year low.
