Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad today accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "stopping" all developmental schemes launched by the Congress government in Assam affecting its growth.
"Assam is placed in a difficult location geographically. So usually no investment comes here. That is why the Congress government had introduced a special scheme for promoting Assam and the Northeast by incentivising investment in the region," Azad said at an election rally here.
"Becasue of North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP), investments started coming in and people were getting jobs. Lakhs of people would have got jobs in the coming years as well. But Modiji stopped this policy and said it is a wrong policy. Can you tell me how promoting industry and giving jobs be a wrong policy," asked Azad.
The Congress leader accused the BJP government at the Centre of adopting "anti-Assam, anti-people and anti-North East" policies.
"I appeal to all people of all communities and religion to vote for continuation of the Congress government for development and then after three years vote for it again at the Centre," Azad said.
MGNREGA has benefitted over 13 crore families, comprising about 65 crore people, he claimed and added "Modi is killing this scheme. Whatever pro-poor scheme we had launched, BJP is withdrawing all of them," he added.
