After a dry spell, many parts of the country may witness revival of monsoon activity, especially in western and central India, the MET department today said.
"There is a system (low pressure area) formed between the coast of Northern Karnataka and Southern Odisha. This will bring good rain in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, entire state of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, and South Gujarat in coming 4 to 5 days," said Laxman Singh Rathore, Director General of the Indian Meteorological Department.
The west coast, especially the Konkan region and Mumbai where Ganesh festival will be celebrated in full swing from tomorrow, is expected to witness heavy showers.
"The monsoon though has also shifted southwards, which was earlier on the foothills of Himalayas," Rathore added.
This activity will bring sporadic and scattered rains in Northwest India, like it witnessed today. West Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi will also experience rain and the temperature is expected to come down further.
Rainfall activity in the Northwest region and many parts of the country had come down and witnessed a "break monsoon", which had led to soaring temperatures, touching 39 degree Celsius, quite unusual for this time of the year.
According to Skymet, a private forecasting agency, during "break Monsoon" rainfall goes missing for days from the core zone of North and Central India. Rainfall largely becomes confined to the foothills of the Himalayas extending up to Northeast India, which is why Northeast and the foothills of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh witnessed some good spells of rain in in last few days.
Rathore, however, added that the overall country deficit of monsoon is expected to hover around 17 to 18 per cent.
