Monsoon is expected to reach Odisha in the second week of June while most parts of the state received rains which led to lowering of temperature significantly.
"There is favourable condition for onset of monsoon in Odisha and we expect it to happen anytime in the second week of June," IMD regional director S C Sahu said today.
About most parts of the state receiving rains, he said a cyclonic circulation, which formed over west-central Bay of Bengal, 2.1 km above the mean sea level along north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast, has remained static and caused precipitation.
A trough line formed over Punjab across interior Odisha also caused rainfall in the state.
"Due to the rainfall, temperature in some parts interior Odisha has come down below 40 degrees Celsius. It will remain below 40 degrees Celsius in most parts of the region for the next three to four days," he said, adding rainfall will continue for the next 24 hours in coastal and southern parts of the state.
Bhubaneswar received above 55 mm of rainfall for the second consecutive day today. It received 57.7 mm rainfall during the last 24 hours, while Phulbani, the district headquarters of Kandhamal, received 53 mm of rain.
Sambalpur and Hirakud received 14.4 mm and 10.6 mm of rains respectively, the MeT office said, adding barring Bolangir, the whole of in western Odisha recorded temperature below 40 degree Celsius.
