Monsoon withdraws from Odisha: IMD

The southwest monsoon has completely withdrawn from Odisha on Friday even as the state is likely to receive rainfall due to likely formation of a low pressure over south Bay of Bengal, IMD said.

Southwest monsoon that entered the state on June 8 this year has withdrawn.

"Southwest monsoon has withdrawn from entire Odisha, Today, 5th October, 2018," a special bulletin issued by the India Meteorology Department (IMD) said.

Meanwhile, the IMD also said that a low pressure area is likely to occur over south Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around October 8. "It is likely to become more marked and move towards Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coast during the subsequent 72 hours," it said.

"Enhance rainfall activity is likely from October 10," the IMD said adding that the situation is under the close watch.

Official sources said that the state during the monsoon has received surplus of 11.3 per cent rain over the long term average rainfall.

While 11 districts have received surplus rainfall of more than 19 per cent, the rest 19 districts have received normal rainfall during the period from June 1 till October 5, they said.
