Odisha will continue to get rains as the IMD today spotted a cyclonic circulation over the west central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal extending upto 2.1 km above mean sea level.
"The Low Pressure Area over west central Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of north Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha is less marked, but cyclonic circulation lies over west central and adjoining north-west Bay of Bengal extending upto 2.1 km above mean sea level at 0830 hours IST on January 2, 2015," a bulleting issued by the IMD said.
Forcasting rain and thundershower in many places in northern part of the state and in one or two places in southern part, the bulletin advised fishermen to be cautious while venturing into the sea.
"The chilly weather conditions would continue to prevail in the state till January 5," Sarat Sahu, director of IMD, Bhubaneswar, said.
While Paradip recorded the highest rainfall of 82.5 mm and Chandbali with 55 mm last night, most parts of the state experienced rainfall during the past 24 hours, Sahu said.
He said though the intensity of the cloud mass had substantially dissolved, there was extensive rainfall in some parts of the state.
"The weather condition in the coastal districts will improve due to blowing of westerly wind from Central India while rainfall will occur in the interior districts in the next 48 hours," he said.
Sahu also said that most parts of the state would have dry weather by January 5 as the trough line over central part of the country had started weakening.
