Most markets remain close in Ghaziabad
Press Trust of India Ghaziabad (UP) Most parts of markets in Ghaziabad remained closed today after a group of businessmen called for a bandh to protest against the alleged thrashing of a trade leader by some lawyers in Lucknow.
The bandh called by Uttar Pradesh Udyog Vyapar Mandal (UPUVM) remained successful, said traders' leader Tilak Raj Arora.
The traders' bandh was called to mark a protest against the thrashing of UPUVM state president Banwari lal Kanchal by a group of lawyers in Lucknow, he said.
However, some shopkeepers of Turab Nagar market opposed the bandh call, arguing that rift between lawyers and Kanchal was their personal matter, but later all of them joined the bandh call.
All the major markets in various residential colonies of Sahibabad, Loni, Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar remained closed to support their cause, Zila Udyog Vyapar Mandal general secretary Shiv Shankar Rathi said.
