"We have submitted a proposal to Home Ministry recommending handing over security responsibility of Delhi Metro network to Delhi Police," a senior Urban Development Ministry official said.
The official said because law and order is a state subject it should be the responsibility of state government.
"Our view is that it is not only for Delhi Metro but for all such Metro network in the country. Respective state police should be responsible for its security," he said.
He, however, said the recommendation has not so far been accepted by the Home Ministry.
UD Ministry is of the view that an unified security system under a single security set-up will be a better and effective option for Metro network.
