MP: AMU founder Sir Syed remembered on 198th birth anniversary

The 198th birth anniversary of the founder of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, was celebrated here by paying him glowing tributes.
A large number of alumni under the banner of 'AMU Old Boys Association' (AMUOBA), Bhopal recalled the contribution of Sir Syed (as he was better known) in setting up the university during British rule at a function held late last night.
Sir Syed Ahmad Khan was an Indian Muslim pragmatist, philosopher and social activist of the 19th century India, who co-founded the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Lauding the efforts of Sir Syed in establishing AMU, Madhya Pradesh Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Syed Mohd Afzal, said, "If we make ourselves indispensable, no one can stop or reject us from marching ahead."

AMUOBA, Bhopal president, Iqbal Qazi, shed light on the contribution of Sir Syed in promoting education.
AMUOBA office bearer Mohd Afaque said that they have chosen 150 poor students and would provide them Rs. 2,400 of annual scholarship.
The function was also addressed by many eminent personalities like Anwar Ahmad, Director, All India Radio, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, besides Tasneem Habib, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman Nadvi, Dr. Mahfoozur Rahman and Mohd Afaque.
Aligarhian Dr. Intezar Ahmad conducted the programme.
