The Madhya Pradesh Assembly today congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he was named as the ninth most powerful person in the world by Forbes Magazine.
The matter was raised by BJP's national general secretary and MLA Kailash Vijaywargiya in the House during the day-long special session of the assembly.
"The prestigious Forbes magazine has mentioned Prime Minister's name as the ninth most powerful person in the world which is matter of pride for over 1.25 billion Indians. He has enhanced the country's image in the world.
"Earlier the World Economic Forum (WEF) too had described him as the 10th most popular leader in the last 100 years," Vijaywargiya said.
He said that by achieving this feat, the Prime Minister has not only made this House but also the entire nation proud and therefore the legislators should honour him.
Speaker Sitasharan Sharma, too, seconded Vijaywargiya and congratulated Modi.
Prime Minister has been ranked as the world's ninth most powerful person by Forbes magazine in a 2015 list which is topped by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Modi was placed 14th in the 2014 Forbes list of world's powerful people.
Besides, Modi is the 10th most admired personality globally, as per a new survey by the World Economic Forum (WEF) that has ranked late South African President Nelson Mandela on the top.
Mahatma Gandhi is ranked fourth most admired leader, according to a survey of more than 1,000 millennials. The respondents were spread across 285 cities in 125 countries.
